WSOP to Host All-Star Game?
March 3rd, 2010
Want to see this guy play in a WSOP All-Star game?
In the last couple hours, a pair of provocative and mysterious tweets have appeared on the official WSOP Twitter feed.
At about 9am PST, this tweet was sent: “Doesn’t poker deserve an All-Star game? The WSOP thinks so. Stay tuned for details. We will need your help! #WSOP”
Then, a couple hours after that: “Which 20 WSOP Bracelet-Holders would you like to see compete in an All-Star game? Stay tuned…#WSOP”
So, reading between the lines, I’d like to be first to officially say this… There will be an All-Star game at the 2010 World Series of Poker. And, from what I can gather from those not-so-subtle tweets, they’ll be asking us, the online community, to help pick some or all of the twenty players who will compete.
The idea seems designed to rack up some television ratings, and it will probably work. While those who know and love poker will happily watch anyone competing at a main event final table, there are lots of viewers out there who tune in to see the big stars. For proof, just look at all the attention (and ratings) Phil Ivey helped attract for the 2009 event.
With an All-Star game at the 2010 WSOP, it doesn’t matter if every big name player busts out of the main event on day 1… They’ll still have a chance to put all the famous and familiar faces on TV.
