Soccer Star Allan McGregor Plays Online Poker

The top goalkeeper in the Scottish Premier League, Allan McGregor, was found outside his home with a black eye and a bloody nose two nights ago, the victim of an attack by an unknown assailant. But when police came to the Rangers star’s home in Glasgow to interview him about the incident yesterday, that was apparently the last thing on his mind – the soccer star was busy playing online poker.

According to The Sun, McGregor’s a real grinder – he continued to play online poker for the entire two hours the police were there interviewing him about his attack. It’s not known what game he was playing or how he did, but the police didn’t report any smashed laptops or computer mice so we can probably assume he didn’t take any terrible beats during those two hours.

McGregor’s links with poker go deeper than an affinity for the online game. He ex-girlfriend, Bronwyn Campbell, is a Canadian part-time pro who once finished ahead of Kara Scott at the Women’s World Open, and the star goalie is rumored to be an occasional visitor to Glasgow’s Cincinnati Poker Club.

Rangers are currently sitting atop the table in the Scottish Premier League, having expanded their lead last night with a win over second-place rivals Celtic. McGregor was in goal and in fact was one of the stars of the game, keeping Celtic scoreless despite receiving all sorts of abuse from the Celtic fans. Anyone who can shrug off a weekend attack to keep a high-level professional soccer team from scoring must have incredible focus, so it’s no surprise that McGregor found his way to a game that rewards patience and skill.
