Poker Celebrity Mike Sexton Voted Into Poker Hall of Fame

by Kevin Hudson October 16th, 2009

After much hooing and haaing and back and forth and polling and debating over which poker player would be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2009, the answer has finally been revealed. There will only be one inductee this year and that person is long-time poker commentator and player Mike Sexton.

Known as equally for his dulcet tones while describing the action on episodes of the World Poker Tour as for his exploits on the felt, Sexton has been an ambassador of the game since the early days when he helped to push online poker into the limelight and televised poker into the mainstream.

Being elected into the Poker Hall of Fame was no easy task this year as he was joined on the ballot by well-known players (some of whom are well on their way to or have already achieved “legend” status) like Phil Ivey, Barry Greenstein, Daniel Negreanu, Erik Seidel, Scotty Nguyen, Dan Harrington, Men “The Master” Nguyen and Tom McEvoy. All of whom have pretty convincing arguments surrounding their inclusion into the Poker Hall of Fame. Their only consolation? Pretty much every one of them is guaranteed a spot at some point in the future.

Check out the video below to get Sexton’s thoughts on the possibility of him being inducted (before this was announced obv) as well as some comments by a couple of other pros:
