Phil Ivey Takes Prop Bet, Goes Vegetarian for One Year

by Taylor Kent February 17th, 2010

Chalk up another easy prop bet win for Phil Ivey.

Players at the table in the new season of H

igh Stakes Poker aren’t allowed to make prop bets at the table, but that apparently didn’t stop then from making bets on things away from the table – and one of the more interesting ones apaprently involves Phil Ivey giving up meat for a year.

In a blog Gus Hansen wrote for Denmark’s Ekstra Bladet after filming at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas, the Great Dane says that Ivey took a prop bet from Tom “durrrr” Dwan that the November Niner could go completely vegetarian for the next year. There are no details yet on what Ivey will win from durrrr if he manages to go meatless for a year, which means we’ll have to wait for the bet to show up on High Stakes Poker to learn what’s at stake. But it’s hard to imagine Phil Ivey losing this one, given that he can hire the best vegetarian chef in the world to work for him for a year for less money than the average pot he wins playing online poker.

On a related note, Hansen’s blog mentioned there was a much tougher prop bet proposed while he was in Vegas: he was offered $2 million to go without sex for a full year. Given the company he keeps, it’s not hard to understand why Hansen thought the price was a bit low and chose to decline.
